Who We Are
Grace Presbyterian is a New Church
I'm always excited when I hear about new businesses opening in and near the downtown area. And always a bit saddened when I hear of something closing, because, with its passing, there is one less place for people to gather and for community to flourish. That's harmful not just to those who gathered there, but to the community as a whole. So along with many of you, I'm pulling for the continued revitalization of downtown Spartanburg. There's something good about old buildings coming to life again, something good about a city prospering. What does that have to do with Grace Presbyterian Church? We're a new church that wants to be a part of making old things new and of seeing the city of Spartanburg flourish. We believe that urban renewal that lasts has to be accompanied by the renewal of hearts and that the proclamation of the grace of God in Jesus Christ is the key to both renewed hearts and a renewed city.Grace Presbyterian is an Old Church
Grace is a part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) whose roots grow deep in the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition. A good summary of our theological commitments can be found here.
Grace Presbyterian is for the City of Spartanburg
Grace Presbyterian is committed to working for the good of the city of Spartanburg. We want to see the city prosper and believe that spiritual renewal is a key part of urban revitalization. We hope to minister to the college campuses and to the various neighborhoods in the downtown area.
Grace Presbyterian Exists to Proclaim the Gospel
Grace Presbyterian exists to reach people for Christ and to equip them to serve by communicating the message of the gospel. The gospel is the good news that we are made right with God not through our work but through the work of Jesus. We believe that this simple message changes everything: how we approach God, work, money, sex, relationships, recreation, parenting...... everything.
Our Vision
Grace Presbyterian hopes to minister to people who live in, work in, and have an affinity for downtown Spartanburg. No single neighborhood is our target; rather, we hope to draw from a variety of neighborhoods. We believe that the gospel is the power of God for salvation, delivering us from our attempts to save ourselves from the futility of life in a broken world. This gospel unites us to Jesus Christ and to His people - becoming THE thing that we have in common. The gospel should unite people of different races, people from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, people with different politics, and people who like different types of music in worship (crazy, right?). We're praying that Grace will be a pretty diverse place. Pray with us, and we'll see how God responds. Our Method
We don't want to create more church activities to keep you busy. Rather, we hope to preach and teach the Word and then send you out to be a part of the life of the city - loving your neighbors as you work, play, serve, and live alongside them.We hope to clearly present the message of the Bible in ways that are engaging and relevant both to those who consider themselves to be Christians and to those who do not. We'd love to have you join us.
